Ceramics is not a plain material. Because of its structural qualities, pliability to processing and versatility it continuously attracts designers’ and architects’ interest. On one hand new technologies and materials stimulate designers to use it in an original manner in diverse projects, on the other hand its specific implementations in particular designs prompt manufacturers to study this varied material in search of innovative solutions. Italian ceramics possesses the typical for Italian design tradition, innovation and above all creation of pieces unknown so far on international markets. In order to highlight its features, the Association representing Italian ceramic industry organized an exhibition, which took place in Milan in April. The interesting exposition presented Italian products great achievements regarding quality, elegance and creativity. Accenting upon the designer’s role in transforming material into a particular shape and crossing the border of mere functionality, organizers invited nine famous designers to propose chairs made entirely of ceramic tiles. The nine interpretations were much more than sitting furniture. They turned out to be a real aesthetic experience for all visitors, also proving that ceramics plays a key role in the creation of contemporary interior.
